Hi for all our young teenagers having chest pain. It’s unlikely to be
coming from the heart. But it is possible if you a congenital heart
disease. Please tell your parents to bring you to a cardiologist for a
    check up. Good luck.

+mathew martires The solution to your problem is to tell your mother, that
I told you to see a doctor. I am 99% sure that you don’t have a heart
problem. But the only way to be at peace, happy and productive is to see a
doctor. This will solve your worries and your mom’s worries too. Everybody
needs a check up, and avoiding this check-up will make you feel awful in
the long run. So take the courage to do it.

+mathew martires can range from over the counter medication to surgery.
you’d have to see a doctor or take a trip to the ER to know for sure.
whether it’s an esophagus or heart disorder, both are serious and I
recommend seeing medical help right away.

Hi Dr Ong. Very nice clear coverage of the risky dire stuff – thank you.
I’d like to contribute something which is relevant once all the medical
tests have been done and are all clear – but the patient still has chest
pain. The usual diagnosis then is costochondritis (inflammation where the
ribs hinge onto the breastbone), or Tietze’s Syndrome if there is also
swelling. The usual treatment is prescription of anti-inflammatories and
reassuring the patient that it will settle down. The problem is that so
often the NSAIDs don’t help, and the pain doesn’t settle.

As a New Zealand physio, we’d see costochondritis as logical and not
mysterious or difficult to fix. The core of it is that the rib
(costovertebral) joints at the back where the ribs hinge onto the spine are
jammed. So the sternocostal rib joints around the front where the ribs
hinge onto the breastbone have to work excessively just to let you breathe.
They get irritated, then inflamed. Seen like that, and not as a mysterious
inflammation of no apparent cause, treatment is logical and just involves
freeing up the tight rib cage machinery.

We’ve put up a couple of YouTube videos explaining this New Zealand view:
‘How To Fix (most) Costochondritis and Tietze’s Syndrome Chest Pain’ Parts
    (1) and (2). I hope you and your viewers may find them useful. Links are:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvJbQFDeyOk

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7ve6nNVdWc

I’d emphasise again that my comments only apply once the chest pain has
been checked out medically and cleared of anything dire. Best regards,
    Steve August.
